About Pattern Plume
Four free tools for people who design repeat patterns for fabric, wallpaper and paper.
What it does
Pattern Plume takes a motif from idea to print file. The seamless repeat maker builds a tile in full drop, half drop, brick or mirror repeat. The mockup preview shows that tile to scale on a cushion, a wall and a length of fabric. The print-ready export resamples it for a physical size and DPI and writes the DPI into the PNG. The separations tool reduces artwork to flat colours and makes one film positive per ink.
How it works
Everything runs in your browser. Images are decoded and drawn on canvases on your device, heavy work such as colour reduction and very large exports runs in a background worker, and every download is made locally. No image is uploaded, and there is no account to create.
The PNG writer, the DPI chunk, the ZIP packer and the colour maths are written for this site and tested against the PNG specification and known values. Where a page uses a number from elsewhere, such as Spoonflower's 150 DPI or the browsers' canvas limits, it names the source on that page.
What it is not
It is not a full design app: there are no layers or drawing tools, and the colour on your screen is not a promise of the colour your printer will produce. Order a test swatch before a large print run.
Pattern Plume is an independent hobby project. It is not affiliated with any print service mentioned on these pages.
